So, there is a new visiting teaching model and I'm not sure what that will bring from month to month, but I'm thinking I will probably (at least occasionally) be making and sharing a handout.

This month I used a quote from the First Presidency message. I love the motivation January brings for change and improvement.  What a joy it is to have the ability and the desire to grow and become the people we want to be.

Father's Day book review: The Good That Men Can Do by D Todd Christofferson

Father's Day is tomorrow. Are you ready to show the men in your life how much you love them?

Men kind of get a bad rap.  The fight for equality has kind of tipped the scales in the other direction in some ways.  Instead of treating all races, genders and cultures equally It seems that we just trade one lauded group for another. Seems like people go out of their way to praise women and the wonderful things that they contribute to society, I like that. I'm one of them, but There are also wonderful, hard-working, faithful, dedicated men in this world who also deserve our respect. Especially the good husbands and fathers out there.
In his book, The Good That Men Can Do by D Todd Christofferson shares his thoughts about men and the powerful way they can and do influence and bless our lives. This book is a wonderful tribute to good men all over the world.
This book touched me deeply. It reminded me of the Great blessing it is to have a wonderful father, husband, son's and other good men in my life.
I recommend this book wholeheartedly! It's time to show the men in our lives that they are not overlooked and that we love them and need them in our lives just like they need us. Head over to Deseret Book and grab 1, 2 or more.  You won't be sorry!

Product Description

"Fathers are fundamental in the divine plan of happiness," writes Elder D. Todd Christofferson of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles. "I want to raise a voice of encouragement for those who are striving to fill well that calling. I wish to focus on the good that men can do in the highest of masculine roles: husband and father."
Based on his "Fathers" talk, given during the April 2016 general conference, this thoughtful new book contains insights and inspiration about the eternal role of men. Complete with beautiful photography and typography, The Good That Men Can Do uplifts, encourages, and honors husbands and fathers of all ages and walks of life as they share responsibility with our Heavenly Father to nurture His children.

The Best Cheesecake!!! You Need These Recipes!!!

I'm just gonna put this out there...

I don't know why, but I didn't taste cream cheese till I was in high school. My Young Women's advisor (church youth group leader) was making hors d'oeuvres for a party she was having at her house that night. She was simply spreading cream cheese on white bread, cutting the crust off and cutting them into squares and triangles. She finished them off with a garnish of some type. Some had olives, some had cherry tomatoes etc. She gave me a taste and I wanted to eat the whole dang tray! What the heck? What kind of sheltered life had I lived up to that point in my life?

Since then I have been in love with cream cheese, but the best we to have cream cheese is in the form of cheesecake! I have passed my love of cheesecake onto my family and most of the family parties and birthdays we have feature the cheesecake of their choice.

Not just any old cheesecake is acceptable. The taste has to be good. That's obvious, but the texture is key! No slippery, pudding like texture for me.  That is just not right.  The texture needs to be more cakelike.  If you were to break a piece off it would break unevenly, and leave a bumpy edge. Yep, texture is everything.
Saturday we celebrated 3 family birthdays. My husband's, daughter's and son's.  Everyone wanted cheesecake. Hayley wanted Chocolate with an Oreo crust and Dallin wanted a basic cheesecake with strawberry topping.  I have made a lot of cheesecakes!  I tweak the recipes until they are just how I like them, but these ones were extra good!
 Basic Cheesecake

1 1/2 cups graham cracker crumbs
1/3 cup butter
1/4 C sugar
4 (8 oz) pkgs cream cheese (at room temperature)
1 C sugar
4 eggs
2 t vanilla

Preheat oven to 325* F
Combine graham cracker crumbs, melted butter and 1/4 C Sugar.  Press mixture into bottom of 9 inch springform pan.  Bake for 10 minutes.
Beat softened cream cheese with 1 Cup Sugar till well blended.  Add eggs one at a time.  Add Vanilla.
Pour mixture into pan. Bake for 60 minutes.
Turn off oven. Leave Cheesecake in oven for 30 minutes and then refrigerate.
When cheesecake is completely cool, drop dollops of Coolwhip evenly around Cheesecake. Slice 3 strawberries in half and place them on each dollop.

Strawberry topping.
Add sliced strawberries to a jar of  Smuckers Strawberry Topping.  I melted the topping and then added the strawberries.  Easy and yummy!

Chocolate Cheesecake with Oreo Cookie Crust

1-1/2 C (about 20 cookies) Oreo crumbs
2 T butter melted
3 8oz pkgs cream cheese - softened
1 C Sugar
2 tsp. vanilla
1 12 oz pkg Ghirardelli Semi Sweet Chocolate Chips
3 eggs
1 jar Smucker's Hot Fudge

Preheat oven to 325*F
Mix Oreo crumbs with butter.  Stir until well mixed. Press into bottom of 9" springform pan. Bake 10 min., Set aside.

Beat cream cheese and sugar together to smooth and well mixed.

Melt chocolate chips in microwave.1 minute>stir 30 seconds>stir. continue at 30 second intervals till completely melted. then add to cream cheese mixture.

Add eggs one at a time. Add vanilla.

Spoon batter onto crust and bake for 60 minutes. Turn off oven and let cheesecake sit in oven for 30 minutes then refrigerate. When completely cooled, melt hot fudge in microwave according to directions on bottle.  Pour over top of cheesecake allowing some to drip down the sides.

To garnish-add 6 dollops of coolwhip to top of cake by sliding off spoon with finger.  Place a cookie into each dollop. (you can sprinkle each dollop with chocolate chips, cookie crumbs, etc)

PS: Hayley is engaged!  We will be welcoming this handsome man to the family in September!

Good Morning Summer

Can you believe it's June? IT'S SUMMER!!! OK, Summer's not officially here till the 21st according to the calendar, but the calendar is always behind on these things. Am I right? What fun things do you have planned this summer?

I love that every season has its own pace. The changing colors of autumn inspire personal changes as well. New goals, a more organized and regimented schedule and commitment to better ourselves seem to come naturally this time of year.

I absolutely love the first real snowfall of the winter! As the snowflakes meander to the earth they bring with them a peace and a promise of Christmas celebrations, beatiful pastel snowscapes and evenings at home by the fireplace. There is definitely another side of winter though. and it's not awesome! Once January starts the charm wears off. Everything looks dead and gray, The days are short, ITS COLD and I am over it!

Enter Spring. Spring is hope, new beginnings, LIFE! Color trickles back little by little and before you know it everything is in bloom! It even smells great! Spring even seems to grow people. The neighbors you haven't seen all winter are working their yards and exercising their bodies and it's just wonderful!

And now it's summer! Summer moves at a much more relaxed pace. (At least for me.) No more concerns about carpools, homework assignments, or stringent schedules. It's time to relax and play! Swimming pools, barbecues and vacations are just a few of the things that I love about summer! Kade's last day of school is tomorrow. I get the same "last day of school" feeling today as I did when I was a kid! I LOVE IT!!!

It's almost scary how true this is. Our lives, our choices, our moods are not our own. They effect everyone who knows us and is associated with us.

I am so not cool! Sometimes I hear things made fun of and think to myself, "I actually like that". And sometimes the things that are SO trendy just don't make it into my heart.
I like music.-all music. (OK, almost all music.) I don't care if it's totally uncool. If a Justin Bieber song I like comes on the radio, I will turn that baby up full blast and sing at the top of my lungs! If it's Opera-same!
And clothes??? If it's not comfortable, forget it! Comfort first is my style.
ROSE GOLD. I just don't get it. What is the big deal? Seems like everyone is going CRAZY over it and I'm over here thinking, "What? Why?"
Don't worry though. I'm not judging anyone who wears it. And it's just not my thing. But then again I am not the fashion police. Not even close!
So go ahead and wear your rose gold and your fancy clothes and listen to cool music. I'll just stay at home in my pajamas and listen to the carpenters.πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚
NERD ALERT!!!πŸ€“πŸ€“πŸ€“
Is there something you don't like that everyone else seems to love? Please share so I don't feel like I'm the only one.

A Stitch In Time Saves MINE!!!

This is how the Burningham's spend a quiet evening at home!πŸ˜±πŸš‘πŸ˜·

Kade is a total stud!!!  πŸ’” He was super nervous about getting a numbing shot. Ted (another stud) was hoping to close the cut with just Dermabond, but it wouldn't line up evenly so he had to do one stitch in the middle first. ➰ He didn't have any numbing medicine at homeπŸ’‰ so we held ice on the cut for about a minute and a half. Ted did the stitch and Kade said he didn't even feel it. πŸ‘πŸ»The sides closed up beautifully with dermabond and Kade is good to go!  πŸ‘ŒπŸ»

What's more scary than getting a numbing shot? πŸ’‰πŸ’‰πŸ’‰Getting a stitch without the numbing shot.😱

Look what I got my hands on!  Isn't this a gorgeous color?

Plum Pretty!!!

Technically a warm color, but I can wear it with no problem at all so I bet you can too!

Do you need one for a Mother's Day or graduation gift?  Or maybe for yourself?

Just let me know and I'll get you some!
$25 for the color
$50 for a starter Collection.-- Color, gloss, remover.  (Regularly $55)
This is that lipstick that really doesn't budge, smear or come off on your teeth.  4-18 hour wear!
1 tube should last about 6 months.

Music Review: Mormon Tabernacle Choir and friends

Deseret Book sent me a copy of this album and asked me to share my thoughts with you, my readers.  All opinions are my own.

MOTAB and Friends---What a fun album! I am a lover of many kinds of music from opera to country and even some hip hop. How they managed to make so many genres blend together so cohesively I'll never know, but definitely works

I've always been a James Taylor fan and loved this rendition of The Lonesome Road. Homeward Bound was probably my favorite. What a beautiful voice Brian Tercel has. And what a blast to hear sweet Angela Lansberry share her first impressions of the song Beauty and the Beast and how she came to develop her character for Mrs. Potts.

This one is being released just before Mother's Day on May 12 so if you want to get the perfect Mother's Day gift do not hesitate! Head over to Deseret Book ASAP!

In the meantime. Follow the link below to preview this Album!  ENJOY!

Mormon Tabernacle Choir and Friends

The Mormon Tabernacle Choir has collaborated with some of the most legendary vocalists and performers over the years. For this album, the Choir has assembled an unprecedented collection of recordings taken from standout performances over the past 15 years. Most of these performances were recorded live at the 20,000+ seat Conference Center in Salt Lake City. In addition, some real gems were uncovered or created specifically for this album, including a performance recorded live before millions of viewers at the start of the 2002 Winter Olympics (Sting & Yo-Yo Ma performing "Fragile") and new recordings such as Amy Grant's "Thy Word," The King's Singers' "I'm Running On," and Santino Fontana's "He Lives in You."

Album includes 11 tracks:

  • Fragile, feat. Sting & Yo-Yo Ma
  • The Prayer (from Quest for Camelot, feat. David Foster
  • Thy Word, feat. Amy Grant
  • That Lonesome Road, feat. James Taylor
  • He Lives in You (from The Lion King), feat. Santino Fontana
  • How Can I Keep from Singing?, feat. Renee Fleming
  • Through Heaven's Eyes (from The Prince of Egypt), feat. Brian Stokes Mitchell
  • Vitae Lux, feat. Sissel
  • Homeward Bound, feat. Bryn Terfel
  • Beauty and the Beast (from Beauty and the Beast), feat. Angela Lansbury
  • I'm Runnin' On, feat. The King's Singers

  • About the Author

    Mormon Tabernacle Choir

The 360 members of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir represent men and women from many different backgrounds and professions and range in age from 25 to 60. They reflect a medley of unique lives and experiences and are brought together by their love for singing and their faith. Their incomparable voices are the common chord that unites to form the choral group known all over the world as the Mormon Tabernacle Choir.
The Mormon Tabernacle Choir originated in the mid-19th century in Salt Lake City. As the Latter-day Saints moved west, Church President Brigham Young included musicians among members of the advance parties. Consequently, a small choir first sang for a conference of the Church in the Salt Lake Valley on August 22, 1847, just 29 days after the first group arrived. The origins of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir may be found in the desire and commitment of early converts to include appropriate music in both sacred and secular events.
The Mormon Tabernacle Choir has appeared at 13 world's fairs and expositions, performed at the inaugurations of five U.S. presidents, and sung for numerous worldwide telecasts and special events. Five of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir's recordings have achieved "gold record" and two have achieved "platinum record" status. The most popular was the Grammy-Award-winning 1959 release of "The Battle Hymn of the Republic" with the Philadelphia Orchestra.

Music Review-City of Enoch: Sweet Redeemer

Deseret Book sent me a copy of this album and asked me to share my thoughts with you, my readers.  All opinions are my own.

I was at the gym yesterday (don't faint) and decided to give this new album a try. As soon as the music began streaming through my headphones I started smiling.

Who did these guys remind me of? Edwin McCain? Nickle Creek, Lady Antebellum? Maybe, but they definitely have a sound all their own and I LOVE IT!

This CD is going to be my new favorite to sing along to in the car! There's Joy and He Hears Me we're my instant favorites.

This album has a quality that makes you just want to sit back and enjoy listening and would make the perfect Mother's Day gift!

Follow the link below to go have a listen for yourself and pick up your own copy. You won't be sorry!

    City of Enoch: Sweet Redeemer

    by City of Enoch

City of Enoch is the group that you have been waiting for, with a captivating sound that is described as “Lady Antebellum harmonies meet Christian Contemporary praise.” This debut album from a rising trio features new songs, great Christian covers, and an incredible new arrangement of the classic hit “He Hears Me”.

    About the Author

    City of Enoch

City of Enoch is a contemporary Christian vocal trio consisting of Jeremy Christensen, Brianna Curran, and Kyle Wesley. After traveling to Nashville to write songs and put together initial ideas for a group, Jeremy and Kyle began the concept of the group by writing the song “Bountiful” along with a mutual friend and producer. Shortly after that, they recruited Brianna Curran, someone they discovered on YouTube, after searching for singers in Utah who could complete their concept for a group with powerful three-part harmonies and the ability to easily share vocal leads. Based out of Salt Lake City, the group quickly gelled, and they began performing and creating more demo songs. Soon they were discovered by Shadow Mountain Records and signed a deal to immediately begin work on their first album. Their debut album features primarily original songs, drawing inspiration from their faith journey. Standouts are some of their first songs, “Bountiful” and “One Prayer away,” as well as an incredible cover of the Hilary Weeks classic “He Hears Me.” Expect big things from City of Enoch.

Book Review: Once There Was a Mom

Raising six kids has not been an easy endeavor. I have shed many tears, uttered many prayers and stayed up many nights worrying on behalf of the little ones I love so much.  When I look back on their young years I hardly remember the messy rooms, less than stellar grades, cavities, a kitten almost being cooked in the microwave, a call from the local police station (yep, that happened) broken… EVERYTHING and fears that I would fail them as a mother. Instead I see bedtime stories, heartfelt talks, family outings, much improved and impressive grades and dental hygiene, and laughing---lots of laughing because they have their dad's ingenious sense of humor.  My children have become my dearest friends and they've turned out to be really great people.

I'm so excited to share Once There Was a Mom with you! This witty little book by Emily Watts is an absolute joy! It captures my feelings of motherhood perfectly!  Wendy lightheartedly pokes fun at the impossible bar we set as mothers for ourselves and for our children and brings to light the power in those seemingly insignificant, little tasks that take up so much of mothering children. I was actually in tears when I finished reading and I couldn't wait to share this book with you.

The fun, contemporary illustrations by Destin Cox add charm and interest to this darling story. I am buying a copy of this book for my daughters as a Mother's Day gift.  I know they will love it too!

    Chicken Chile Tacos.

Well, dinner was a HUGE hit tonight!
I came up with this simple taco recipe because I wanted to make something easy, healthy and delicious.
About 80% of what I cook is done in a crock pot!  I love the convenience of it and I love food cooked slow and low!  Tender and hearty!

This isn't even so much a recipe as it is an idea.

    1. Cook your meat of choice in your sauce of choice in the slow cooker on low for 4-6 hours.

    2. Remove chicken from pot and shred.

    3. Return chicken to pot and add taco seasoning.

    4. Cook an additional 30 min or so.

Serve in your favorite shell and top with your favorite taco toppings. ---yummy!
Easy as pie!--actually, easier than pie. Way, way easier than pie!  :)

Mary Poppins Table for Vntage Birthday Party

Every spring our church celebrates the BIRTHDAY of it's women's organization. Our ward celebrated last week with an all things vintage party.  I'm not a leader in this organization anymore so I am not taking credit for anything. I just wanted to share. However, I did volunteer to decorate a table.
All the tables were decorated after broadway musicals. People are so creative!
Mary Poppins, hello Dolly, Phantom of the Opera, little mermaid, South Pacific, breakfast at Tiffany's and beauty and the beast.  That was also sound of music.they decorated the table with a suitcase and items from the song A Few My Favorite Things. Brown paper packages tied up with string, kittens with whiskers, snowflakes and little white dresses with blue satin sashes. That table wasn't decorated until later so unfortunately I didn't get a picture of it, but cute ideas.

Here are the Deets on my Mary Poppins table.  I decorated with the thought of the dance with Dick van Dyck and his red and white striped jacket.  So I had my color scheme. Red white and black. I got cups, napkins cupcake liners and straws that were red and white striped.  I got the carousel cupcake holder on Amazon. I will post the links below.  I cut Black silhouettes of various items from the show and put them on the cups, napkins straws etc. As you can see, the straws were used in the cupcakes to add to the look of the carousel. I attached tags that said tuppence two bags of gold coins and I made cake balls dipped in white chocolate and rolled in coconut. Then I attach them to plastic spoons with a little bit of melted white chocolate. These were my spoonful of sugar. I covered them with a cellophane bag and tied a tag to them that says "Just a spoonful of sugar helps the medicine go down. I have a link to the tags below. I cut out kites and umbrellas and attach them to the tags with a pop dot. "I got done and it just didn't look quite finished so I ran to the craft store and got some red and black helium balloons. It was just what the table needed.

They The gym decorated with clouds from different vintage items! It was so cute!  Dinner was marinated barbecue chicken, green Jell-O with carrots, salad and rolls.  Dinner was cakes made by various women who volunteered.

There was also a speaker who talked about simplifying. It was a really good talk and she joked about the topic because these were definitely not simple decorations.  Haha.

Here's a little video to give you another look.
